What made you invest money and time in OUNI?

I love being outside in nature and outdoor swimming so I get really upset seeing all the non-biodegradable rubbish in our green spaces and oceans. If it seems bad on your average European beach, I can’t imagine how shocking the situation must be in the Pacific vortex! The first time I came across the idea of living packaging free was one colleague back in Brussels who was beginning to promote the zero-waste movement and trying out her own homemade cosmetics etc. Yet at the time I didn’t see how I could apply this to my lifestyle in Luxembourg. Despite frequently working in meetings dealing with environmental issues and already doing a lot of composting and making do, zero waste didn’t yet seem so accessible to me. As soon as I heard about OUNI, however, this bridged the gap and spurred me on to make more changes to the way I consume. I also appreciated the principle and values of the cooperative and the opportunity to get involved in something so positive in Luxembourg, as I haven’t been here that long.

Do you have a memorable experience of your hours spent working at the shop?

One experience that stands out was recently helping out with the interpretation at OUNI’s general assembly. It was a chance for us all to take part in constructive discussions and to help OUNI grow so I’m pleased to have played my small part in that. Otherwise, I have really enjoyed any interaction with the customers. The ‘moien’ and a smile makes OUNI very special and the various queries from customers have even been a welcome opportunity for me to try out my Luxembourgish comprehension, although unfortunately my speaking abilities still leave much to be desired!

Do you have a favourite product?

My favourite products are the chocolate covered goji berries and the various types of flavoured almonds and nuts. As a freelancer, I’m always on the go and now I have my zero-waste snacks sorted!
